Maria is a charming municipality along the coast of the Baie des Chaleurs area. After the Micmacs, who already inhabited the area, the municipality of Maria also welcomed American Loyalists, Scottish and Irish people. This was around the years 1774-1775. However, we had to wait for about 100 years, until 1860, for the colonization to begin officially. The arrival of Acadians, looking for land suitable for cultivation, was the start of its development.
Still today, farmers inhabit the municipality of Maria, but thay do not limit their activities to bovine and dairy industries. Among others, the Petit jardin de l’abeille offers honey by-products like wax and mead. Let’s not forget the Aboriginal roots of the municipality with the Micmac village, where you can learn about these first pioneers.
