Percé

Percé

Probably the most famous city in Gaspésie, Percé has been drawing visitors since 1930. A large number of activities is offered in Percé: visits to the parc national de l’Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé, sea excursions to go fishing, whale-watching or marine bird watching, water sports like snorkeling and kayaking, guided tours and hiking.

The parc national de l’Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé has three different sectors: the secteur historique Charles Robin, the secteur Île Bonaventure and the secteur Rocher Percé. In the first sector, you will find an interpretation centre that will allow you to discover the historical and natural heritage of the region. You will learn more about marine ecology and the behaviour of birds and marine mammals that live in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. You can also visit the exhibition room and watch a documentary on Northern gannets to prepare your visit to the next sector. On Île Bonaventure, you will visit the LeBoutillier House, will go on a guided walk on the sentier des colonies and enjoy the animations at the Northern gannets’ colony. On this island, there are 250,000  birds, including 120,000 Northern gannets, which make it the most important colony in North America and the most accessible in the world. The restaurant des Margaulx offers typical marine dishes that will please you for sure. In the third sector, take advantage of the low tide to walk on the beach and chat with the naturalist park-warden who will tell you more about the Percé Rock. This huge limestone rock contains thousands of fossils.

At the Centre d’interpretation et de formation agroecologique on route des Pères, you will learn more about ecological vegetable gardening techniques and about the history of agriculture. You will find several types of gardens: ornamental, medicinal and water gardens. You can also consult a complete herbarium that makes an inventory of the medicinal plants available on the site, visit the biological market garden production and taste fresh products.
