Located 580 metres above sea level, the city of Murdochville formerly exploited an important copper deposit and transformed the ore. Nowadays, the Centre d’interpétation du cuivre offers you the chance to go under the earth’s surface with the miner’s suit, the helmet and some light to experience total underground darkness in the Miller gallery. From this interpretation centre, it is also possible to visit the industrial complex. Many other activities are also available in the city, like a golf course, the lake York outdoor center, which offers lodging at the campground or in cottages, a ski resort and snowmobile trails.
